The Institute of Energy and Nuclear Research [Instituto de Pesquisas Energéticas e Nucleares] (IPEN), an associated entity of the University of São Paulo, has the mission of improving the quality of life of the Brazilian population by producing scientific knowledge, developing technologies, generating products and services safely, and training human resources in nuclear and related areas. IPEN is located on the São Paulo Campus, in the University City [Cidade Universitária] (Butantã district), west side of the city of São Paulo.
