Institute Overview
The Institute of Biosciences [Instituto de Biociências] (IB) The Institute of Biosciences (IB) aims to: (i) train graduates and bachelors in Biological Sciences as well as 1st-degree science graduates; (ii) provide didactic collaboration, in the area of its competence, to other undergraduate and postgraduate curricula of this University; (iii) develop professionals in the field of Biological Sciences through graduate courses and others; (iv) carry out scientific and technological research in the interest of the country’s development in the area of Biological Sciences; (v) provide didactic, scientific, and technical collaboration, in the area of its competence, to the community, to 1st and 2nd-grade teaching, to companies, foundations, societies and class associations, private entities, municipalities or public authorities, and scientific centers in the country and abroad. IB is located on the São Paulo Campus, in the University City [Cidade Universitária] (Butantã district), west side of the city of São Paulo.
The Institute of Biosciences (IB) is composed of five departments (name and code):

- Department of Genetics and Evolutionary Biology (BIO)
- Department of Physiology (BIF)
- Department of Zoology (BIZ)
