The Institute of Architecture and Urbanism [Instituto de Arquitetura e Urbanismo] (IAU) aims to:
I – provide education in areas of knowledge related to the development of architecture and urbanism, the arts, cities, and the territory, fostering dialogue between different fields of study to encourage integration and interdisciplinarity;
II – teach subjects related to its areas of expertise for the programs of other units on the São Carlos Campus;
III – expand USP’s activities in São Carlos to include the humanities and social sciences by proposing new undergraduate and postgraduate programs, as well as promoting courses and outreach activities;
IV – develop research and knowledge with freedom of thought and expression as fundamental principles;
V – engage with the community by extending services and activities that are inseparable from teaching and research.

IAU is located on the São Carlos Campus, in the city of São Carlos.
