The USP ranks among the top 0.6% best universities in the world, according to the 2024 edition of the ranking compiled by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR), a consultancy from the United Arab Emirates, which evaluated 20,966 institutions. USP was classified in the 117th position and, although it dropped eight positions compared to last year’s ranking, it remains the highest-rated institution in Ibero-America.

The top five positions are occupied by American institutions – Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Stanford University – and British institutions – University of Cambridge and University of Oxford. Among Brazilian universities, after USP, the most well-placed are the University of Campinas (Unicamp), in 370th place; the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), in 401st place; and the São Paulo State University Júlio de Mesquita Filho (Unesp), in 437th place.

Compiled since 2012, the ranking assesses world institutions considering four indicators: the quality of education, measured by the number of alumni who have won major academic distinctions in relation to the university’s size (25%); employability of alumni (25%); prestige of faculty (10%); and the performance of research conducted (40%).

In these aspects, USP obtained the highest score in the research performance category, ranking 78th, followed by the prestige of faculty, where the University ranked 184th.

More information about the ranking can be found on the CWUR website and on the page of the Office of Academic Performance Indicators Management (Egida) of USP.
