AUCANI holds a virtual meeting with the University of Chicago (USA) to initiate a partnership between the institutions

by Iasmin Cardoso Rodrigues – July 1st, 2021

On Wednesday, June 30, AUCANI held a virtual meeting with the University of Chicago (USA) intending to initiate a partnership between the universities. Until very recently, the University of Chicago had focused on agreements with Asia, even having physical structures in some Asian countries. The meeting with USP happened in a context of diversifying partnerships around the world.

Although the University of Chicago does not have a formal system of agreements, AUCANI is interested in starting to develop this cooperation, focusing on teacher and student mobility, and on the development of scientific research. USP representatives were cautious about the deal, given that US universities have tuition fees while USP is free (due to public funding), but both participants are willing to look for ways to carry out projects together. This will be analyzed on both sides and more concrete actions will be decided at future meetings.

Representing AUCANI were present Prof.Dr. Marcio Lobo Netto (Vice Provost and Associate Director for Mobility), Prof. Dr. Sergio Muniz Oliva Filho (Associate Director for International Cooperation) and Prof. Dr. Elizabeth Harkot de La Taille (Director for National Cooperation). The University of Chicago was attended by Kate Moore (Director, Global Initiatives & Strategy) and Marie Bejarano (Assistant Director, Global Initiatives & Strategy).
